For TOPIK II writing, questions 51–54

The writing tutor you do not have

You can study grammar alone. You cannot mark your own essay. Sseudam marks every answer against the official TOPIK rubric, shows you what to change, and remembers the mistakes you keep making.

Writing is the section you cannot study alone

“I finished the essay. Is it a level 4 or a level 6?”

Reading and listening have answer keys. Writing has a marker, and you do not have one.

“My Korean friend said it looks fine.”

A native speaker can hear what sounds odd. Almost nobody can mark content, structure and language the way the exam does.

“I asked an AI and got 80. I asked again and got 65.”

A score you cannot check twice is not a score. You end up guessing what to fix.

Marked the way the exam marks

Not a vague grade out of ten. The three official criteria, an estimated band, and every sentence you got wrong rewritten with the reason.

  • Content, structure and language scored separately, so you can see which one holds your band down
  • Length and task rules applied by the server after marking — never just mentioned and forgotten
  • Hidden instructions in an answer are marked as part of the answer, never obeyed

Around TOPIK level 4 — the data is described, the language holds you back.

Your writing, annotated

Q53 is graded in the plain written style. Polite spoken endings cost language marks.

Overall advice

Good structure, but the language slips into spoken forms that cost points on Q53. Fix the register and this jumps a full band.

  1. 1

Drop the spoken endings in Q53.

늘었습니다 → 늘었다 — Q53/54 are graded in the plain written style.

  2. 2

Name the cause before you describe the trend.

State what drove the change, then use the numbers to back it up.

A practice estimate on the official rubric — not an official TOPIK score.

One mistake, followed to the end

A grade tells you how you did. It does not tell you that you have now written the same wrong ending four times. Sseudam keeps count.

  1. 3 March

    It shows up

Polite spoken ending in a written report. Marked, explained, logged.

  2. 6 March

    It shows up again

Different prompt, same habit. Sseudam names the pattern instead of re-explaining it.

Spoken endings · seen 2 times

  3. 6 March

    You drill it

Six quick items built from your own sentences, not a generic worksheet.

이 문장을 문어체로 바꾸세요: 사람이 많아졌습니다

    많아졌다

  4. 14 March

    It stops

Written style, unprompted, in the next essay.

    Pattern cleared

Why trust the marking?

Because we test it in public. 18 answers whose outcome we already know go through the live grader on every release, scored against the official TOPIK II rubric and grading research, not a guess at what “good writing” looks like.
